To run a theatre many people with various skills are needed:
Accounting*Acting*Administration*Bartending*Carpentry*Costume-making*Dancing*Drama*Electronics*Event Management*General repairs*Graphic design*Hairdressing*Leadership*Light & Sound*Make Up*Marketing & Advertising*Music*Organisation*Painting*Props making*Public Relations*Selling tea & sweets*Set design*Singing*Web design and more…
If you already have any of these skills or even more importantly WANT TO LEARN any of them, the HHDS is the right place to put them into practice!!
The HHDS is a so-called amateur dramatic society, but the only reason it’s called “amateur” is, that none of us gets paid for whatever we are doing for the society or the theatre. That’s why we can keep ticket prices low but because we all contribute with our various talents we are able to produce quality entertainment.
Our society was officially formed in 1947 but records show a dramatic movement has been in place since the 20’s already! The reason for this long lasting success is very simple: it is enormous fun to be involved! Our members come from all walks of life and any age group, a very diverse and thus interesting group of people!
2008 membership fees:
R60 ... adults
R35 ... seniors from 60 years
R30 ... students
R20 ... juniors up to 18 years
With your membership you:
• Belong to a group of people working together in a very creative process
• Receive regular newsletters
• Are eligible for discounted ticket prices
• Are eligible for discounted entry for social evenings if applicable
• Are eligible to be nominated for awards
Between shows we often have social evenings with various entertainment. They are great fun and make for a nice evening out. We would also appreciate if all members would do FOH (=Front of House) duty once in a while. This way the workload won't be so much on a handful of people. Simply phone the FOH manager as asked in the newsletter and/or tick FOH in your application form.
There is help needed everywhere! As a member we hope you will be part of a few of those "work-parties" (e.g. set building, workshop cleaning, general maintenance, etc. )
Let the fun begin!
Simply fill out the application form, tell us what area you’re interested in, include your fee and either send it by post, hand it in at the booking office or drop it in the suggestion box in the green room (foyer). You may also send the form via e-mail and deposit into our account. Banking details: HHDS, Nedbank, branch 106012, acc. 1498014070, reference: your full name.
